Framing

Gregory Knott Framemaking

My aim is to combine vision, quality, precision and price in ensuring that every piece leaving my workshop exceeds expectations. In addition to hundreds of readymade frame mouldings, I have a significant number of bare wood frames (including ash, oak, obeche and tulip) which I use either as they are, or rout and cut on a table saw and then combine to make unique, interesting and extra-deep or extra-wide frames of real distinction.

These can be painted and waxed or, using traditional gilding materials and techniques, gilded with oil or water, using pale golds, rich golds, white gold, moon gold or silver as well as other leaves and a variety of bronze powders. I often combine painted finishes with gilded sections across both simple and more complex frame profiles. In each case, the corners (mitres) of these handmade frames will be closed; the hallmark of a hand-built frame.
